What is the Canva Family Tree Maker?

Canva is an online design tool that helps you create graphic files, including family trees. You can either start from scratch or use one of the many family tree templates available. The tool is easy to use; you can add photos, text, and shapes to your tree. You can also share your tree online or have it printed.

How do I create a family tree on Canva?

Step 1: Log in to your Canva account. If you don't have a Canva account, you can sign up with your email, mobile number, or Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, or Clever account.

Step 2: Click Create a Design on the top right corner of your Canva homepage.

Step 3: Choose the design output you want for your family tree. This design output depends on what you intend to do with your finished family tree. For example, you can use the Facebook or Instagram Post layout if you aim to share the tree on these social channels. You can also choose the Poster layout if you want a higher resolution output for printing.

Step 4: Your project will open in another tab. You can either create your design or pick from an already preloaded template. To select a design layout, search for Family Tree in the Template tab of the editing dashboard.

Step 5: Select elements, graphics, and fonts for your family tree. You can upload photos of your family members and enter snippets of information about them. You can choose from the virtually endless backgrounds, stickers, and animations Canva offers. Drag and position them around the page or resize them however you want. With Canva, you can create simple and formal-looking or outlandish and fun family trees— the choice is entirely yours!

Step 6: Publish your family tree by clicking the Share button on the top right corner. Canva features many sharing options and even allows you to save your tree in your chosen file format. And don't worry about losing your work— Canva automatically saves all your designs so you can quickly go back and edit them.

Can I edit my family tree design after downloading it from Canva?

Canva allows you to download your completed family tree as an image file, an MP4 video, or a GIF. However, you will not be able to edit these files without a dedicated editing tool, but you can always edit your saved project in Canva if you need to modify your family tree.

Is there a limit on how many family trees I can make on Canva?

With Canva, there's no limit to the number of family trees you can create. Your imagination is the only limit you have, so the possibilities are endless.
